Like its neighboring town of La Couronne, Carro is one of the "seaside resorts" of the Mediterranean coast called Côte Bleue. Carro is attached to the city of Martigues and is therefore part of the Bouches-du-Rhône, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Let's go together to discover the interests and summer life of Carro…
The fishing port of Carro
Come for a walk in the picturesque atmosphere of this small traditional fishing port in the morning during the fish market: the magic of stalls of freshly trawled fish and direct contact with fishermen or their wives... a perfume of yesteryear by the sea. Depending on the season, you can buy bass, sea bream, tuna, red mullet... and with a little luck the poutargue also called "Martegal caviar". It is actually a pocket of mullet eggs, salted and dried that gives off fine and powerful flavors.
Just like at La Couronne, you can also discover the Gallo-Roman quarry of "baou tailla", with this rock of a pale pink so special, that can be found on many buildings in Marseille.
Beaches and water activities in Carro
At the exit of La Couronne and just before the port of Carro, you will find the beach of Carro. Public sandy beach that stretches for 80 meters and is protected from the winds thanks to its location in a small cove. The beach is guarded during the summer and makes families with children happy.
Behind the harbour and passing through the Verandy quay, you can discover a small public beach (very narrow) of sand, pebbles and rocks: this is the beach of the port Carro.
Finally and continuing west by the seafront, you will find Arnette Beach, also accessible by the coastal path. This is a sandy beach with calm water for swimming, especially warm in the summer. The beach is also renowned as a snorkelling and funboard spot, with strong winds and waves.
In Carro in the summer, a whole tradition of partying
A funfair, boules and lively evenings, Carro displays his most festive face for a few days. This year from July the 17th to the 21st, enjoy the amateur musical springboard evening, register for the triplet contest or come and dance at the various evenings. Finally, attend the closing of these 5 days of festivities by enjoying the fireworks with your family.
On August the 8th, take part in the Feast of the mussels: boules and aperitif, inflatable games for children, brasucade and music for a moment of family celebration.
