Less than an hour away: enjoy a day in Marseille and discover the Cité radieuse. More inforally known as the "House of the Fada" it was completed in 1952 by the architect Le Corbusier in the Sainte-Anne district (8th arrondissement). The architect's idea was to create a new form of city, a "vertical village" called a "housing unit". It consists of 337 apartments separated by "inner streets". In June 2013, a new exhibition space was opened by the French designer Ora-ïto who set up an artistic foundation, the MaMo (Marseille Modulor).
Less than two hours away: depending on your aspirations and an hour's drive away, visit Arles and its Roman monuments. Take the opportunity to make a hook by Saint-Gilles and visit its impressive abbey.
You want to escape from the beaches and coves… Spend a day with your family at Pont du Gard. You can practice sports activities (canoeing, hiking…).
Passionate about antiquity, discover the ancient theatre of Orange and its triumphal arch. And stop on your way back for a visit to the Palais des papes in Avignon.
For the more ambitious: among the last inscribed sites is the decorated cave of the Pont d'Arc, known as "Grotte Chavet 2". The cave contains the oldest known paintings to date. For conservation reasons, it cannot be opened to the public and the Chauvet 2 - Ardèche was therefore created. It is the largest cavity replica in the world. It restores to scale the underground atmosphere as well as paleontological and artistic archaeological decorations and remains. The Aurignacian Gallery completes the tour and allows you to explore the prehistoric world through numerous multimedia scenographics, playful and interactive devices: films, touch terminals, woolly rhinos, mammoths, megaceros and others naturalized steppe bison…
Finally, if you are an unconditional fan of Vauban… and not afraid of the road, take a stroll through the small streets of the City of Briançon, which has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 2008.
