Fight against preconceived ideas, discover Fos-sur-Mer
At the gates of the Camargue, Fos-sur-Mer is an ancient commune dating from Gallo-Roman Antiquity. Its history is closely linked to the development of the industrial port, which contributed to its economic development. Fos-sur-Mer is not frequented by tourists but the ruins of the Château de l'Hauture are interesting.
The Château de l'Hauture
The remains of the Château de l'Hauture stand proudly at the top of a hill overlooking the village of Fos-sur-Mer. The castle offers stunning panoramic views of the Gulf of Fos and its surroundings. Although partially in ruins, the castle exudes a majestic atmosphere that attracts visitors in search of historical discoveries. It is one of the oldest and best preserved castles in Lower Provence. Among the remains of its military architecture, you can admire its keep, the parapet walk, the monumental defensive gate and its ramparts which are classified as historical monuments.
Fos-Sur-Mer, on the cultural side
You'll have the chance to play an escape game in the Souterrain de l'Hauture, making this site the largest escape game in France.
The Lavalduc pond is remarkable for its unique colouring, a dazzling mixture of iridescent blue and pink, due to the presence of the small crustaceans artemia salina in its waters. This attracts the attention of visitors and nature enthusiasts. Located about 10 meters below sea level, it is also the lowest point in France, making it geographically interesting.
